FEATURED REVIEW

Mayflower by Nathaniel Philbrick

I thoroughly enjoyed Mayflower, a highly-readable history of the Plymouth Colony. It covers the period up to the end of King Philip's War and devotes much attention to the relationship between the English settlers and the Native American tribes. Although the book is definitely aimed at a popular audience and occasionally left me with questions, I learned a great deal and the book's modesty appealed to me - it seemed just the right length. I particularly enjoyed the description of the ocean crossing - the author clearly loves ships and the sea! Having read this book will greatly increase my pleasure the next time a visit New England.
